When I am using green I always think about Summer and lush greenery growing, vines, sprawling flowers in a field and greens popping through the cement or across a building, a bridge. Nature breaking through. Most of my life I had been commuting through the city. I sit on the bus and L and look out for green, nature growing through, growing on or around a structure or metal. I think it makes the city look pretty with plants popping up.

When I shop for green paint, I find so many shades that are lively. I end up buying more than one shade. Right now I am in love with olive green, bright yellow green and lime green.

Do you have a favorite shade of green or what thing do you have affection for that is green?

Catch up with me tomorrow for painting #24.

Thank you!

Red is my favorite color. I have red drinking cups, red cutting board, red blankets, etc. I only wear red nail polish (ok not only, sometimes blue when I am feeling punk) but 99% of the time it's red. Perfect red to me is red like blood which is bright and deep at the same time. What I like about acrylic (especially red) paint is how rich and thick the paint is.  Take a look at some of my red paintings.

Pop Up Painting #21

 Painting #21

16x20 Matted
$25.00 + Shipping
Acrylic on paper

This painting was done with acrylic, ink, paint pen and gold leaf. I have only used gold leaf a few times in my painting journey. The gold leaf flakes are similar to glitter and it gets everywhere. So I recommend if you use it; do your project in a box to catch the flakes. This piece would go great in a nursery or as a gift for someone who has a green thumb.

My family are honey people. We believe in the power of honey and keeping the bees alive. I try to eat a spoonful of honey everyday.  The world needs the bees so be good to them.

Last Summer I worked on a mural that was all about nature. I painted lady bugs, a caterpillar, a butterfly and bees.

I would be very interested in painting another mural. My goal is to paint larger wall size paintings. Right now I am still looking and saving to buy a home and the absolute requirement is space so I can have entire floor as a studio. This has been a long waiting game, but I am confident I will find my home studio.

Only 4 more paintings left to go! #22, Tomorrow!

Thank you.

Today is the Summer Solstice. I think this day is magic. It like New Year's Eve a chance to reflect and emerge into something new. You evolve. It's the longest day of sunlight and officially it's Summer. The world is lush and bright and alive. Sunlight can have a great affect on your mood too. I know I am excited and happy and just want to get outside in the warm sunshine.  Check out my Summer Solstice playlist.

Exciting day because my new paintings release.

My love for water/ocean related things continues with this painting of sea urchins. This also relates to circles and spheres which, I mention in an earlier blog. These shells have a great shape; squat like sea pumpkins. These paintings from this pop up collection can be purchased to mix and match, give as gifts, create a collage wall.  Another option for a collage wall is posters. Please visit my Society6 shop and shop posters which are great for a college dorm room or teenager's bedroom.

Well, well, well a painting with blue in it. This abstraction was made with my squeeze box bottle technique. (I like to say squeeze box because it reminds me of the song by The Who) This process works very good because the paint bottle becomes like a pencil/pen and it is easy to write/paint with. When I paint I let the paint flow; I intuit the way to move the squeeze bottle. The paint creates a stroke that can easily be blended or made blurry or puddley, (that's not a word?) you know what I mean.

I was thinking about who are my favorite iconic abstract painters. Of course Pablo Picasso, Gustav Klimt, Vasily Kandinsky, Albert Alcalay and I recently discovered Alice Baber. I am stilling learning. I am still gathering art history. It's all part of evolving.

Please keep up with me for the next 25 evolving years and join my collectors collective; just email me your email: oktoberstudio@hotmail.com .

See you tomorrow for painting #19.

In Chicago we are having a wonderful Spring and it's about to be Summer and everyone is heading to the beach. We may not have gorgeous sea creatures in Lake Michigan, but an octopus is just cool. How many of you saw the documentary on Netflix, My Octopus Teacher?

An octopus is just an interesting subject and my mind wonders to the water, always. This would be perfect for a kids room with a sea theme. You can purchase paintings #2, #7, #14, #15 and create a collage wall.

I noticed over my 25 years as a painter I have been drawn to paint with blue which is very much the ocean color.  Picasso had a blue period. I can say the same for me.

Please share my blog with a fellow art collector.

Check back tomorrow for painting #18.

Thank you.

I like cranes, herons and especially because, it is red I love the ibis. Tall, long leggy birds with big pointy beaks. When I was a kid just in the South suburbs sometimes you could spot a crane when driving past river or little lake. It was always a thrill to see these big birds. I have a friend who does digital birds as part of her art medium. I find art that is digital fascinating. I am not tech savvy so if you can make art that way and sell it; that is just awesome.

I had taken an art class this year; Making Art Work. I met a few other artists and I wanted to share a couple creatives who are running wonderful art businesses.

Sarah Cray

Vanessa Lee

As a painter or creative it has been very good to have other creative people to speak to about art and art business issues. It helps to know everyone else is going through what I am going through too.

I used to live in the Logan Square neighborhood and you could trip over an artist there. At one time in my building every resident was an artist. Since relocating I have only met one other creative person. My classmates are from all over the US and do all sorts of different mediums. It has been fun to getting to know and learn from them. It's nice to have a group again to talk to. Whatever you do and you do what you love, I hope you find your people.

I thought this would be a perfect painting to match to painting #7. A perfect pair as a gift for a couple, best friend gift, twins, siblings, perfect for family beach homes.  It incorporates two my favorites, stars and the beach.

I tried another landscape style but, a beach/water theme. The beach is my happy place. Can you have more than one happy place? I feel that when I have other favorites I'm not being fair to the beach. Let's say yes, no bad feelings; my next happy places would at a concert, a Blackhawks game and anything fitness related, yoga, swimming pool, rowing on the North Branch, bike riding. Fitness makes me feel free. Going back to the beach, my happy place; be on or in water. Many, many of paintings give off a water feeling; well at least that is how I feel once the painting is done and I always think I must be longing for the beach, for floating, for the sensation of the water around my body, my body moving through water. It's peace and freedom.

I  am not sure how I am feeling about being a painter for 25 years. I am happy, but mostly I think I cannot believe it; more of a shock. It is a big number to be happy about!  Please see my videos about my evolving painting styles.

I know I can say I am an intuitive abstract painter and after all these years this is absolutely true for me. I paint on feeling not really knowing what the subject is before I start a painting. I also know I love the chaos of abstractions. I also love trees and their shapes and flowers and fruit and vegetables for their fresh colors and these images slip into my work often. I like that an abstract painting is like a puzzle and the viewer can try to figure it out.

I also am very fueled by music and other art. They give a feeling of being grateful to be alive and in each moment will be a memory and that turns into feelings that come out in painting. Over these 25 years, my life has created my art and I am grateful for my experiences.

This painting has a wonderful bright green and this bright green was brought to my attention from my side hustle with Alice's Table. Their brand color is this marvelous green, like a granny smith apple or a bright avocado or the green of a flower. At Alice's Table we teach flower arranging workshops. Please use and share my exclusive check out code: LICHADVIRTUAL

I took this gig because, I felt the flowers would fuel my creativity and who doesn't love flowers. They really do make you happy. Try a workshop and you will see; therapeutic, inspiring and beauty delivered to your home. My experience came with color inspiration.  See these flower arrangements (flowers by Christin Geall) and my paintings. Both these pieces were done with my smash technique. I feel they have a fruitful, ripe, blossoming feeling.
