Go Big

 Hello,

If you know me...you know my biggest goal is to buy a home where I can have a studio too, but you also know that my other goal is to paint mural size paintings. I have taken a step towards that.  I found a roll of canvas on ebay. I watched, I offered and I bought it. It was so big; 72 inches. I could barely lift it into my apartment.  I learned next how to cut canvas, which was pretty easy. You just rip it! However, apparently I am not a master at measuring , because what was supposed to be 72x72, has become 72x71 or 72x67. However that didn't get me down for long. I have a plan. Since the canvas needs a few extra inches for stretching my final pieces will be 68x68 or 66x66, which is good because, I need to be able to get these pieces through the doorway which is only 73. I will get half the canvas stretched and half will be flat paintings and the collector can decide if they want to mount and frame the painting or have the painting stretched. I painted one flat canvas and am working on a second. I am excited also because, I am painting outside in the fresh air and a friend was kind enough to lend me an air brush and compressor which I plan to use for these big paintings.  

I have also been considering to do a one time, limited, elevated fine art print of a painting that has not been exhibited. I was mulling over the idea of doing 50 prints and selling for one day only on my 50th birthday. I still ned to think about it.

Sunshine

 Hello,

I have been busy working on my Summer collection, "MidSummer" coming out on the Solstice, Tuesday June 21, 2022. It's full of light and heat, which leads me to the obsession I have been having with the sky and sun's color story.  Take a peek at some of the side pieces.

Painting people is not my strongest skill, but I have wanted to paint something with figures for a while and I wanted to also paint something floral. These two ideas came together to create this whimsical collection.

My side hustle with Alice's Table threw me into florals and I sponged up all the flower details. I have been with Alice's Table (we teach flower workshops) for a short time now, even though I do not have a lot of workshop experience. The idea of a woman made company spreading joy, confidence and beauty was something I was drawn to. Flowers make you happy and my hope is that these paintings do the same.

Spring

Spring into Spring am I right?!  My 100 Day Project started January 1st and took me all the way to April 10th. I am very excited I sold 27 paintings so far from the project. 100 Day Project

 Hi

In my last blog I wrote to you about starting a 100 Day Project.  I am currently on painting 59. I hope you are following along. If not follow me now as we are smack dab in the middle.  I  wanted to share with you my favorites from the first 50 paintings.

My work is energy and what; people, places, things, pass through my life; what fills me up and the emotions that come from my experiences.

I clearly remember the day I painted this. Please read my Instagram caption. It was cold out. I had too many bags to carry and my shoulders hurt from the weight of all the bags. I wanted to cry and I wanted a ride. I wanted someone to take care of me. You have those days, right?!  The sun came out and lit up the air with warmth. I kept telling myself I can do this and I took deep breathes and I finished the walk home from the train, through the snow, on the ice and I slept good that night. I think this painting was the release of the energy getting me home. The sun had my back and I could feel it.

What I like best about this painting is the bold yellow against the blues. I am going into my 26th year as a painter. What I have discovered about myself... What I know about the pieces that are line work; the lines have to connect. If there is open space I need a connection somewhere between the lines. I also know I don't like much white space I need to fill it up. I need everything to connect. It makes me think about how lives are sometimes parallel and then there is a connection, a coincidence, a small world, fate, destiny, kismet. Where will your life line take you?

I am in love with this piece. Painted with a trowel that I saved from my dad's belongings. He had so many tools. I'm sure he was using this trowel for cement and not paint. The trowel is skinny and I like the leggy strokes that are created when I use it.  This painting feels so much to me like the beach. The little vacations with friends, jumping up when the wave comes and the roller coaster in my stomach feeling of fun as the weight of the water moves me, crashes over me. .. my happy place.
